there is a museum in pondicherry, it suprised me when my eyes my fell on it. I belived to be a man, who look for museums. There was a rock axe protected in glass box, 70,000 to atleast few millons years old. i was like “what i see before me existed for thousands of years”, in principle it ment nothing but when you quantify time, it gives a impressions of value. i was elated for some reason, technically every rock you see is millions of years old. This one was used by people back them.
Most of the artifacts are from late chola period, 16th – 17th centery. Like this sculpture has seen 400 years. wars, dynasties over throw, families extint. But does this owned that time? or lived it. After all no can live the entire time, this sculpture propably lived 60 years its time facing the inside of a wooden box and stored in basement of rich tooth. Thats time as time can go for that sculpture.
there is a section, a wall and half. 9 copper and bronze sculpture of davi/ amman. no clue what that name means, its a women sculpture. All of them have same concept, like they are mass produced. my idea of past was, people displayed innovation when they get a chance, espically with god and temples. and hear i am looking at almost identical 9 sculpture. It must have diffcult to make them, and no one when “ooo let me raise this hand a bit and let it hold different item”. In that sence times have not changed a bit, now there is not a lot differnt between two temples. I am sure there are exception in both past and now. I look for what new perspective they bring, when i glance at a sculpture. its always about finding the exception. propably, those 9 sculpture served different audiences in far always places. that makes scence.
